Each year, thousands of brave people take a plunge into a frozen lake in support of more than 8200 Special Olympics Athletes across the state of Minnesota. This year, Storm Creek is increasing its support of this simple, yet frigid act by becoming a key sponsor of the Minneapolis Polar Plunge Weekend, March 1-2, 2019.
Storm Creek’s classic full-zip Sweaterfleece Jacket will be featured as the 2019 Plunge incentive gift for teams that raise $1000 or more. Each jacket will be decorated with the Polar Plunge logo.
In addition, Storm Creek is the official apparel partner of the Polar Plunge 5K on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Race participants will be provided Storm Creek Short Sleeve Performance Tees and all race staff will be wearing Storm Creek beanie hats.
The Minneapolis Polar Plunge events and 5K will take place at Thomas Beach on Lake Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis.
“We are so thankful for our continued partnership with Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN),” said Teresa Fudenberg, Storm Creek CEO. “In 2017, we partnered with KARE-11 to raise funds for Special Olympics through the sale of exclusive Embrace the Cold hats and apparel, and we’re so proud that has evolved into a lasting relationship with SOMN. When they approached us to sponsor the 2019 Polar Plunge with our Sweaterfleece Jackets, we couldn’t wait to jump on board.”
Fudenberg added, “Through our Embrace the Cause Initiative, Storm Creek is committed to improving our community’s well-being for the greater good, especially for those who need it most. The ongoing partnership with SOMN and events like the Polar Plunge reflects that commitment, as well as our passion for supporting Special Olympics’ global mission of inclusion and community.”
SOMN provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy with friends, family, and community members. Presented by the Law Enforcement Torch Run Movement, the Polar Plunge includes 20+ events held throughout Minnesota over the course of three months, attracting 5,000 participants, more than 15,000 spectators, and raising $3 million per year for Special Olympics Athletes.
