Spring Break is just around the corner. Where are you headed with your family or friends this year? Here are some pointers to make your travel prep extra easy.
Packing Essentials for Spring Travel
What’s your packing goal? To fit everything in the space allowed without forgetting anything important. That takes a little planning ahead and a little ingenuity.
When it comes to your clothing think about:
- What’s appropriate for the weather in your destination. These days you can get a forecast for anywhere in the world! Be sure to find out what to expect.
- Clothing items that major in versatility while taking up minimal space.
- Items you can simply shake and hang once you pull them out of your suitcase or duffel—versus items that will have permanent wrinkles from being jammed together for days on end.
- Comfortable footwear—these are key, especially if you plan to do a lot of walking during your Spring Break.
What accessories will you need? Sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm are important for any spring destination—whether mountain top or ocean side—since the sun is getting more intense. If you’ll spend much of your time outside (which we hope you’ll do), these can help keep the sun from ruining your trip!
Other handy accessories are a refillable water bottle (be sure it’s empty before heading through airport security), your toiletries, phone/smartwatch chargers for everyone, and maybe a power bank.
Don’t forget important documents like your ID, passport (if you’re headed out of the country), ticketing items and any other info you want along like reservation or travel insurance information.
Finally, bringing an assortment of healthy pocket-size snacks is always a good idea. This is especially important if you’re traveling with kids…but even some adults get less travel-cranky when they have their favorite snacks along (can we see a show of hands?).
Maximize Your Wardrobe Options While Minimizing Space
When it comes to getting the most bang for your buck in packing your Spring Break wardrobe, versatility is where it’s at. Bring items that layer well together and that are color-coordinated with each other. Have clothing along that can be equally at home in the ski lodge and at the restaurant. Or on the beach and for a night out on the town.
Packing is so much easier when you can mix and match your items rather than bring a different outfit for every single day of your trip. And when these items are well made (versus budget “fast fashion” clothing) you won’t have to worry about them falling apart when you’re a thousand miles from home.
Besides versatility, focus on items that are comfortable, stylish and functional. And it’s a bonus if at least some of your clothing items are quick-dry. These are easy to wash in the sink of your lodging space and hang dry overnight for use again the next day.
